Hello again! Today's walk was a longer one at 7 miles around Pitsford Reservoir. It is part of Brixworth Country Park and a section of water at one end is a nature reserve.
The weather wasn't great when starting out, it was cold and overcast. Half an hour into the walk, the rain began and didn't stop until an hour and a half later when I completed it. It didn't dampen my sporits though and even though the paths weren't bustling with as many people as usual those that were out seemed in good spirits.
You can start from two places around the water. The first place is to park at the visitor centre car park where there are toilet facilities and also a place to eat. Or, you can start from the Causeway car park as I did - this car park is quieter at times and it means that the toilets are half way round so if you get stuck anywhere along the route, there isn't far to go.
The paths around the reservoir are exremely accessible to all as they are made of gravel and are wide enough for those who have pushchairs and use wheelchairs.
The route is also open to cyclists so you can often here the bike's bell tinkling as you are walking about letting people know they are there. You can take your own bike or hire one from the cycle hire shop at the visitor centre.
There is also sailing available to all ages and abilities at the sailing club that is only a short walk away from the visitor centre and with the right permit there are great places to fish too.
At seven miles long, the walk is a good length to spend a whole morning or afternoon outside. There aren't many steep hills but the terrain can be undulating at times. Due to the weather, I didn't stop a lot and so I completed it in 2 hours. However, on a nice day, when stopping to take pictures and admiring the view, it can easily take as long as 3 to 3 and a half hours.
